Part 1: Each student will research his/her explorer and write a paragraph describing a specific portion of an explorer’s life. You can include more details than are listed below.

**During the school day, you will gather all required information. At home, you will create your rough draft of the paragraph to be edited the next day.
Students will edit their paragraphs with partners the next day and complete their final copy for homework.
Part 2: With your group make a map of your explorer’s travels.
Your map should include:
-labels on all continents
-outlines of countries the explorer visited
-Label all stops during the voyage
-Label the oceans
-Map key
-compass rose
-arrows indicating directions of voyage
-dates of voyage
-colorful routes and images
Part 3: Students will each bring in one artifact that relates to their explorer.
After completing your research, you will have learned about the fascinating artifacts and different cultures your explorer came in contact with. This might include objects, people and their customs, and even scenery. You should include at least 4 artifacts that reflect your explorer. You need to explain why you chose the artifact and how it relates to your explorer.
Your artifacts can be real objects, replicas of objects, hand-drawn pictures or pictures from magazines.
Part 4: As a group, you will present your paragraphs, maps and artifacts to teach to your classmates.
